TY DOLLA $IGN REWORKS 112’S “ONLY YOU”

TY DOLLA $IGN REWORKS 112’S “ONLY YOU” FOR NEW YG COLLAB “EX”

The plethora of styles that Ty Dolla $ign has boasted this year, as he preps the third installment of his Beach Housetrilogy, is impressive. From the trappy “Dawsin’s Breek” to the Confessions-era “Message in a Bottle,” the L.A. native is pulling no punches. For the latest act from his sophomore studio album, Ty takes 112’s “Only You” for a ride with YG in tow for “Ex.”

After sampling Mary J. Blige on Beach House 3‘s lead single “Love U Better,” Ty dips back into his bag of nostalgic tricks for “Ex,” a rework of 112’s classic 1996 cut, one of the biggest R&B hits from Bad Boy’s “shiny suit” era. With much of the original sound intact, Ty flips the romantic anthem into an ode to “kicking it with his old thing”—not exactly the swoon fest that “Only You” was.

“Ex” is the fifth single released from Beach House 3, which has also delivered the Damian Marley and Skrillex-featuring “So Am I.” The full set is due out on Oct. 27.
