Caramel Mafia

Snvlife Exclusive Interview with Caramel Mafia from Berlin

Ok guys we had the chance to sit down and talk to Caramel Mafia about his successful rise in being a well known DJ.  Now even though Caramel Mafia is  from Berlin he still has a huge following and the fans love him.  We rank him as a must listen to DJ and hope that after this interview you will decide to place him in your playlist.

What made you decide to become a DJ?
I’ve always loved music and I also enjoyed to show people new tracks. When I became a radio presenter I basically made my first steps in this direction. The thing is just that you usually don’t have that much influence when it comes to the music that is played in the program when you host at a commercial radio station.
There was this one party in Berlin which really inspired me. I wanted to be a part of it so I just talked to the promoter and asked if I could play sometime at this event. They gave me the chance to do it and people liked it.

What are some DO’s and DONT’s of being a DJ?
I guess it really depends on what you are doing and what you want to stand for. I personally see me more as an artist than as a jukebox. My personal demand on myself is to entertain and to surprise. There are a lot of other DJs who play the top 20 of the recent charts. That is cool but this is so not me. I would recommend everyone to develop their own style and not try to copy somebody else. Clear DONTs are DJs that are too cool to communicate with the crowd or that are rude and ignorant towards the other DJs who play at the same event.

Being a DJ in Europe pros and cons:
Well, I can’t tell because I only played in Europe yet. But a good thing is that the most European countries are pretty close which makes it easier to travel. Is that answering your question?

If you could DJ for anyone who would it be?
It would be a dream come true to play at Milkshake Festival, Amsterdam. After that I could happily die. (laughs) If I had to choose some artist it would be AlunaGeorge, Iggy Azalea, J.Cole, MØ or Brianna Perry. Those artists have something say and I like the energy of their music. I’m sure the live shows of them must be sick.

How many parties have you been a DJ for?
Hard to say. I’m a resident at some clubs and parties here in Berlin and I’m also running my own club night called “Ratchet”. During the last two years, I was able to play at almost all big venues in Berlin. Right now I’m having shows every weekend. It’s also nice to be able to play outside of my city and even outside of Germany.

Your favorite songs to play?
It really depends on the event and the crowd but I think Major Lazer, some Beyoncé, Missy Elliott and Swizz Beatz is always a good choice.

What key advice would you give to upcoming DJ’s?
My advice is to always believe in yourself. Be your biggest fanboy but also your sharpest critic. Try to find your own sound and style. Get rid of the idea to play a set that everyone is going to love. Because if so, you are not standing for anything.
